Hello, My name is Amanda. I grew up on a Thoroughbred racehorse farm in Ontario, where we bred, sold, and trained thoroughbreds for racing. My family also tried our best to find homes for the horses that did not make it as racehorses or were retiring. This led me to want to start working in the veterinary field.
I started working for an equine lameness specialist in Ontario, right out of high school. I loved taking care of the animals and decided to go to be a Veterinary Technician. Three years later, I received my Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) status. I went back to work at the Barrie Equine Clinic for 4 more years, then moved to the small animal emergency and referral side of veterinary medicine in the greater Toronto area. Moving to the small animal and emergency and referral definitely was a learning curve, but i loved every minute of it. After close to 20 years in the industry my husband and I decided to move to PEI, for a change of pace and to be closer to his family.
I joined the Atlantic Veterinary College in December 2019. My current role at the AVC is as a Large Animal / Small Animal Hospital Float Technician. I really love this role as I can do many different things within the VTH, from ICU, anesthesia, radiology, large animal hospital cases and helping in large / small animal surgery.
In my spare time I like to spend time with my husband and our dog Summer. I also like to garden and spend time up at our cottage / camp up on the western part of PEI. In the winter, My husband and I enjoy going to hockey games and hiking the many trails PEI has to offer.
