HOURS: Whatever time of day or night, the Small Animal Emergency Service is here for you and your pet, 24/7/365, to provide rapid assessment, stabilization, treatment, and care you can trust – when you need it the most. Our reception is staffed by Client Services Representatives from 8am – 11pm, 7 days a week, but outside of those houses there are always veterinary and technical staff on site ready to help!
COSTS: An after-hours examination costs $175 before 10pm and $200 after 10pm. Taxes are included. This includes a full examination and consult with an emergency veterinarian. It does not include any additional tests or treatments that are recommended. For your peace of mind, rechecks for the same condition are free within a 48 hour period from discharge.
PAYMENT POLICY: Payment is due at the time of service. Where additional tests or treatments are recommended and agreed to, 50% of the estimated costs is due prior to proceeding with any diagnostics or treatments with the remainder due in full upon discharge.
At the Atlantic Veterinary College Teaching Hospital we accept debit cards, most major credit cards and cash. The hospital does not offer payment plans, but we work with several external financing companies to help support you in your financial decisions and needs.
STAFF: Your clinical care team will typically include a registered veterinary technician, senior (final year) veterinary student, and a primary care emergency clinician. Behind the scenes, the wider hospital team will provide the highest level of care and attention to meet your pet’s needs during their stay. Our reception is staffed by a dedicated team of Client Service Representatives.
AN EXTENSION OF YOUR FAMILY VETERINARIAN:
The Small Animal Emergency Service at the AVC Teaching Hospital is an extension of your pet’s family veterinary clinic team. We know that our pets don’t choose when to get sick, and we are here so that your animal has round-the-clock access to veterinary care.
If your furry friend is ill or injured, you can come directly to the VeterinaryTeaching Hospital for veterinary care. If at all possible, please call the clinic at 902-566-0950 before coming in for small animal emergency services to help our team prepare for your pet.
We send all of your pet’s medical records and health care information back to your family veterinarian so that they understand your pet’s condition and treatment and can continue to care for your animal when they re-open. This allows your pet to receive 24-7-365 care, helps our senior veterinary students experience emergency medicine from trained Emergency Veterinarians, and allows your family veterinarian to turn off their phones in the evening, so that they can be their best selves when they are at work.
